With over 40 years of combined experience working in the Bloomington-Normal market, Dan and Mick decided to jump into the journey of starting their own plumbing and heating/cooling business, D&M Mechanical, in April 2018
After working for other companies throughout their careers, Dan and Mick realized there is a tremendous need for their services in this community. They share, “plumbing and heating-cooling companies have a very hard time offering same day service due to the volume of demand in our community. We plan to focus on offering same-day service to all of our customers when possible….with no high-pressure sales tactics.”
D&M Mechanical will “primarily focus on residential and commercial service” for both plumbing and heating/cooling, and will include drain cleaning services, equipment changes-outs, and appliance repair, including commercial kitchen equipment. D&M Mechanical’s mission statement is: “Dependable service at a fair price.”
While Dan and Mick have extensive experience in their respective fields, they admit that their biggest challenge to starting a business “was to recognize we didn’t know very much about the business side of things” and they “lacked the confidence in that side of running a business.” As they worked with the SBDC, they share that their “confidence grew as we become more comfortable with the terminology [of business].” “We received wonderful feedback…every one of them [bankers] commented on how thoroughly prepared we were.” Dan and Mick plan to maintain the highest standards of customer service for many years to come, and hope to hire more employees in the future who can meet these standards and serve their customers well. “…I think the sky is the limit for the success of our company.
