Summer 2021 Intern
Maria Poehls is a senior at Illinois Wesleyan University, and in her first semester as an SBDC intern.
Maria is a senior Marketing Major and Graphic Design Minor. She chose her major and minor because she enjoys using her creativity every day in new and exciting ways. After graduation, Maria wants to find a job in marketing, but long-term she would love to own her own business.
Maria has always admired small business owners and the passion that they have for their products and their businesses. At the SBDC, she was most excited about the prospect of working directly with clients and learning about all of the components of running a business. Maria really enjoys the variety of project work that she is doing and the independence that she has in coming up with new ideas or recommendations for the SBDC and her clients. Maria also enjoys the collaborative nature of working at the SBDC. She has enjoyed learning more about social media strategy and content creation. She has also gained more professional skills interacting with clients and her fellow interns.
"A continuously growing passion of mine is sustainability. Sustainable choices are important in my personal life, but I also love to see how different types of businesses can incorporate more eco-conscious practices. I enjoy playing tennis, cooking, and spending lots of time with my dog Stella."
Fun fact: Maria loves farmer's markets!
